Demodex Treatment
Mile High Eye Institute is happy to provide an advanced lid hygiene treatment service to our patients that suffer from uncomfortable blepharitis and ocular surface disease. For our patients that have chronic blepharitis their symptoms experienced on a daily basis can not only be an annoyance, but can also significantly affect their day to day life. Chronic blepharitis involves poorly functioning meibomian glands which are tiny glands located in your eyelid that are important for tear function and promoting a healthy ocular surface. In some cases of chronic blepharitis a parasitic mite known as Demodex can reside in and affect the glands and hair follicles around the eyelid.
With all of this in mind we have introduced a new technology to help relieve these symptoms. Our advanced lid hygiene treatment service involves a non-invasive deep meibomian gland massage with tea tree oil. The deep massage is provided by a small vibrating sponge that helps break up any blockages in the meibomian glands and stimulates healthy glandular function. The small vibrating sponge is also soaked in tea tree oil which has shown to be greatly effective in eliminating Demodex on or around the eyelids. Treatment takes about 5 minutes per eye and it is recommended to repeat the treatment approximately every 6 months.
Indications for treatment:
- Chronic blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction
